The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United Nations, was established as an international financial institution in 1977 as one of the major outcomes of the 1974 World Food Conference.
IFAD's mission is to enable poor rural people to overcome poverty. IFAD focuses on agriculture and rural development and is dedicated to eradicating rural poverty and hunger in the rural areas of developing countries.
IFAD is a unique partnership of Member States from OECD, OPEC and other developing countries and is one of the largest sources of development financing for agriculture and rural development in many developing countries.
